Are aesthetic treatments painful?

Whilst some aesthetic injectables have little to no discomfort e.g. anti-wrinkle treatments, you may experience some discomfort when dermal fillers are injected. I aim to reduce this discomfort to a minimum therefore a numbing cream will be applied to the area you would like treated. You may feel some pinching-like sensation, however this is short-lived. You will experience swelling and bruising which will settle over the next 10-14 days after treatment.

How long will the results last?

Anti-wrinkle injections involve botulinum toxin injected directly into muscle, blocking acetylcholine receptors which is used muscle contractility. The maximum effects reach peaks at 10-14 days. The effects last between 3 - 4 months. You will have a follow-up appointmnet at 2 weeks and if you require a top-up I can facilitate this. Anti-wrinkle injections will require maintaining every 4 months if you wish to continue this.

Dermal fillers can last anywhere between 6 months to 12 months. This will vary between clients and is dependent on a number of different biological and environmental factors. We can discuss this in detail during your consultation.

What are the potential side effects of treatment?

Anti-wrinkle treatments have very little side effects and they are rare. These occur from either under treating or over treating a particular muscle. These include a brow ptosis or eyelid ptosis. These side effect resolve within 8-12 weeks. There is also an eyedrop which can be prescribed to increase the speed of resolution.

Dermal fillers also contain rare side effects, when treated correctly and safely these side effects are avoided. These include infection, vascular occlusions which can lead to tissue necrosis and/or visual disturbances/blindness.
You will be provided with an after-care e-leaflet to reduce the risks of infection.
If a vascular occlusion is suspected, there are certain measures which can be taken to observe whether the vascular occlusion is resolving (warm compresses), if however I think it is clinically required to dissolve the filler I will use a dermal filler dissolving agent.
